Your answer would be B.) x = -6 or x = 2

l 2(2) + 4 l = 8
l 4 + 4 l = 8
l 8 l = 8
8 = 8

When using -6 for x, the equation would give you -8, but the absolute value signs would make it positive.

l 2(-6) + 4 l = 8
l -12 + 4 l = 8
l -8 l = 8
8 = 8
