The reason why abolitionists were opposed to how cotton was produced in the South is because the main labor force behind cotton production was slavery, and abolitionists were opposed to slavery.

The abolitists were opposed to how cotton was produced in the South because they had slaves picking the cotton with a cotton gin and abolitionist were against slavery.
