Generally, polar compounds have stronger intermolecular forces than nonpolar molecules. Particularly, water is a polar solvent that has hydrogen bonding between the H and O atom. Hydrocarbons, on the other hand, have only sigma bonds. Since hydrogen bonding is stronger, you would need more energy to break the bonds to transform liquid phase into gaseous phase through boiling.
