The most powerful person (politically, not economically) in Germany now is its Chancellor (it is always the Chancellor), who at the moment is Angela Merkel. Merker is the head of the German government which is responsible for most of the functions of the country (but not for making laws).
The commander-in-chief is Horst Kohler and the head of a chancery is Angela Merkel.
