as decimal, doing it on a calculator we have

[tex]\frac{\sqrt[]{5}+1}{2}=1.61803398875[/tex]

But we only need three decimal places, then the result is

[tex]\frac{\sqrt[]{5}+1}{2}=1.618[/tex]
