- 9x = - 45 ( divide both sides by - 9 )

x = 5

substitute x = 5 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

substituting into (2)

5 + 4y = 13 ( subtract 5 from both sides )

4y = 8 ( divide both sides by 4 )
