The area of a regular polygon is A = (1/2)ap, where a is the apothem and p is the perimeter of the polygon.  

The apothem is 8 inches and the perimeter is 6(7) = 42 since there are 7 sides of 6 inches.  

Then the area is

A = (1/2)(8)(42) = 336/2 = 168 in2
