For a 2 step equation, I'm guessing you are talking about this kind of equations.
2x+3=5
In these equations you solve it first.
2x=2
x=1
Now to check your work you simply substitute it back in to see if the equation stands.
2*1+3=?=5
2+3=5
This equal sign stands when I substitute it back so therefore its correct.
That's what checking your work means, this is how you check your work for most solve for x problems :)
