How many solutions for y=x-1?

The graph of  y=x−1  in the  xy -plane is a straight line. Each point on this line represents a solution to the equation.

Let  x=t  where  t  is a real number. Then any point on the line is of the form

(x, y)=(t, t−1).

There is an infinitude of these points.
