Slope is [tex]\frac{rise}{run}[/tex]. Or, in other words the distance it travels in the y direction divided by the distance it travels in the x direction. Each time the y variable increments +4 and the x variable increments +1. Which means the line rises 4 units every time it runs 1 unit.
