Answer: Spain supported the colonists in the war for independence

Explanation:

At the outset of the conflict, the situation did not look right for the colonists. So British troops were more dominant on the battlefield. In 1778, the French, and soon the Spanish, joined the colonists and supported them in revolutionary ideas.

Such moves by these European governments are nothing more than the protection of their interests, and the aspiration to thwart British colonial domination.
