European settlers thought they were more civilized than the American Indians because they thought they knew more about the fertilizer in the soil and they had no clue because they were new to the land and had never been there before so basically they thought they were better than the American Indians so that then put the American Indians in a predicament that they could lose their home which they did they had to find another home
