Factors of 26: 1, 2, 13, 26              (1 × 26, 2 × 13)

Factors of 42: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 14, 21, 42              (1 × 42, 2 × 21, 3 × 14, 6 × 7)


The greatest common factor they have is 2

26 greatest factors are 2*13 so the gcf of 26 and 42 can’t be more than 13

And 13 doesn’t go into 42 so keep thinking

4 doesn’t go into either of them and so you get 2 which is the greatest composing factor
