If by 4x(2) you mean 4x to the power 2 or 4x^2...it can be solved in the following way
f(x)=4x^2-4x-3
=4x^2+2x-6x-3
=2x(2x+2)-3(2x+2)
=(2x-3)(2x+2)
Therefore x=3/2 or x=-2/2=(-1)
